Study findings: low-carb dieters better off with veggies

Participants of the Nurses’ Health Study who followed a low-carb, vegetable-based diet had a lower mortality rate and were less likely to die from cardiovascular disease than those who were on an animal-based low-carb meal plan.

Researchers said the association could be due to higher amounts of unsaturated fats, dietary fiber and vitamins, among other nutrients, with a vegetable-based diet.
