Chew Gum: Lose Weight?

Can chewing gum help you lose weight?

Although any study published about gum chewing and weight loss have been backed by Wrigley Science Institute (Wrigley is the king of candy and chewing gum), the research is interesting, nonetheless.

A study published in the journal, Appetite found that chewing gum for at least 45 minutes prior to meals reduced sweet and salty cravings– plus, increased satiety and reduced snack intake by up to 10%.

Another study (backed by Wrigley) done in 2009 found that chewing gum for an hour in the morning helped participants consume 67 fewer calories at lunch.  The findings suggest that “gum may be a useful adjunct to weight control.” Source: Nutraingredients.com (August 2nd, 2011).
